THE WOUND THAT TAUGHT ME SILENCE

by Kimberly C. Jones©

Come to me now.

I will hold you the way you should have been held.
I will love you in a way you never felt.
I will see the you that you tried to hide
I will hear the words you never had the courage to speak

As a child, no one gathered you close.
No one softened the world for you.
You walked in the footsteps of adults
long before your feet were ready.

You learned early…
Your needs were yours alone to meet.
You learned not to ask, not to need
You learned to disappear your softness
just to survive.

No one saw the hurt you buried in your soul

You learned to believe it didn’t matter
You told yourself it didn’t exist
Until one day you convinced yourself it was true

And you moved through the world
Pretending to be whole—
until the pretending grew too heavy,
and the truth you buried began to rise,
asking to be held,
asking to be heard,
asking to finally be seen.
