THE EMBRACE THAT REWRITES THE PAST
by Kimberly C. Jones©
But come to me now.
I am not the world that failed you.
I am the woman you grew into—
the one who learned softness the hard way,
the one who can finally give it back.
Come rest in the arms
you had to build for yourself.
Let me be the warmth
you were denied.
You don’t have to be brave here.
You don’t have to earn anything.
You don’t have to shrink,
or silence your hunger,
or pretend you never needed love.
I see the child who carried too much.
I see the girl who swallowed her tears
because no one came when she cried.
I see the small hands
that held the weight of a life
that wasn’t hers to hold.
Come to me now.
I will teach you how to be held
without disappearing.
