UNMUTED

by Kimberly C. Jones©

I used to write as a victim.
I lived inside the pain of my past,
pulling from my trauma
just to put words on paper.

When I began healing,
I feared the words would disappear.
Everything felt stuck behind a wall
I didn’t know how to climb.

But I realized:
I am not my pain.
It is not the whole of me.
Healing is not a loss —
it is a becoming.
And in that becoming,
I found a new voice.

Now I write as a survivor.
I look back at who I was
and give her everything she was denied —
the dreams she was never allowed to dream.

I found my true voice,
and I will never let it be silenced again.
